WHAT DO OUR THOUGHTS HAVE TO DO WITH EMOTIONAL EATING?

Welcome to the 4-week mini-series on how our thoughts affect how we eat.

One of the last things we do before we go to bed is lock our doors to make sure our families stay safe. Why don’t we take this kind of care with our thoughts? We allow fear, self-doubt, and criticism to take over our lives.

Thoughts can be helpful and encouraging, but some thoughts can fill us with fear and doubt. If we allow destructive thoughts to take over, they quietly reshape how we feel about ourselves.

Your Thoughts Shape Your Life

You should protect your mind the way you protect your home. When you think negative thoughts, you feel hopeless and overwhelmed. But when you allow yourself to think positive thoughts, you can see through the negativity and see hope. The thoughts you allow are who you become. It is powerful to know we can change our thoughts. And changing our thoughts gives us the power to decide what we will allow and what we won’t.

WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH EMOTIONAL EATING?  More than you might think.

"I have no willpower," "I've already ruined today," "I'll never change," these thoughts can influence emotional eating. We have the power to interrupt the cycle by learning to recognize the thoughts that make us feel like there is no hope. Changing your relationship with food often begins by changing your relationship with your thoughts.

Guard your mind carefully, because the thoughts you allow to stay don't just shape how you feel; they change how you think about yourself. Negative thinking can significantly lower self-esteem. Give yourself the compassion that you would give to your loved ones.

If something you read today feels familiar, I want you to know you don't have to figure it all out on your own. I created the Beyond Emotional Eating Community as a place for women to find support, encouragement, practical tools, and a better understanding of what's behind their eating. If that sounds like something you need right now, I'd love to have you join us.
