Habits That Don’t Rely on Force
When you're told to be consistent, we often think it means to do things no matter what comes up in your day. Even when you're tired, stressed, or just not in the mood.
This kind of consistency does not last. This leaves you feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. Feelings of not being able to stick to anything, or needing to start over. The truth is, you didn’t fail; the approach you were using wasn’t built to support you and your body.
Consistency doesn’t have to be intense to see results. The programs that require long workouts, strict rules on what you can or can not eat are not sustainable.
Ways to be consistent that don't feel overwhelming and support you physically and emotionally are:
Allowing yourself to show up even in a small way
Don’t quiet when it feels hard, adjust your goal, and keep going
Don’t worry about what “diets” say to do, do what is comfortable to you
When hard days hit, reach out for support
When we pressure ourselves and force change, that relies on motivation. And as we all know, motivation comes and goes, especially when we are stressed and tired. When we develop supportive habits that feel doable, that is when change begins. We often try to do too much and push ourselves to our limits and beyond.
When our goals feel hard or too restrictive, we struggle to stay on track. But when you make goals that fit into your life, even on hard days, you no longer feel overwhelmed. One small doable goal at a time. Allow yourself the grace of slowing down and not expecting to get to the finish line before your body is ready.
Our bodies respond better with consistency instead of chaos, and support instead of restriction. Your body doesn’t need perfection; it needs consistency with grace to be allowed to go at a slower pace and create lasting habits.
